Cowal Declaration of
Dependence
At this time of confusion
and controversy in the religious life of the
Christian Community in Scotland, the members of
Cowal Baptist Church wish to state their adherence
to the fundamental beliefs of our Forefathers. The
dangers facing the Church today are just as real and
just as damaging as those that faced the Church in
the past. The faith revealed in the Bible and taught
by the Apostles has largely been rejected by
organised Christianity of every shade of opinion but
is still the only authentic Faith for this and every
other day that the Church continues to exist here on
earth. The essentials of the faith that the
Covenanters were prepared to suffer and die for are
still central in the life of the true Church today.
We believe that many, if not all, of the ills of the
modern Church stem from man’s increasing
independence and faith in himself. Many of the
problems of both Church and State stem from the
belief that man can solve all his problems without
Divine aid. A radical change from independence to
complete dependence on the Almighty is now
necessary. We call upon those who have put their
faith in the Lord Jesus Christ for forgiveness of
sins to live their lives in complete dependence on
God for every other need.
We believe that the Bible is the Word of God and is
our only inspired source of inspiration and
instruction. The Bible teaches Christians how to
live a life of complete dependence
Living a life of complete dependence would solve the
problem of shortages of money and manpower that are
endemic in 21st Century Christianity.
The Bible assures us that our God shall supply all
our need according to His riches in glory by Christ
Jesus. Phil 4:19.
As a fellowship of Christians we will take God at
His Word.
