Heb
2:3 NKJV
How
shall we escape if we neglect so great a salvation?
Titus
2:11
NKJV
For
the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared
to all men,
1 Peter 1:1-5 NKJV
Peter,
an apostle of Jesus Christ,
To
the pilgrims of the Dispersion in
Pontus
,
Galatia
,
Cappadocia
,
Asia
, and
Bithynia
, elect according to the foreknowledge of God the
Father, in sanctification of the Spirit, for
obedience and sprinkling of the blood of Jesus
Christ.
Grace
to you and peace be multiplied.
Blessed
be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who
according to His abundant mercy has begotten us
again to a living hope through the resurrection of
Jesus Christ from the dead, to an inheritance
incorruptible and undefiled and that does not fade
away, reserved in heaven for you, who are kept by
the power of God through faith for salvation ready
to be revealed in the last time.
Over
the past two weeks we have studied texts that speak
about Salvation.
This word is
used of the deliverance of the Israelites from the
Egyptians (Ex
14:13
), and of deliverance generally from evil or danger.
In the New Testament it is specially used with
reference to the great deliverance from the guilt
and the pollution of sin wrought out by Jesus
Christ.
In English
Versions of the Bible the words “salvation”
& “save,” are not technical theological
terms, but simply mean “deliverance”. Salvation
means primarily deliverance from judgment or
deliverance from danger. The general idea is to be
brought to a place of safety.
The Son of God
came to a lost world to restore those who would
commit themselves to him, to that harmony with God
which they had lost by sin. It means deliverance
from the wrath of God
The first verse
that we looked at is about our attitude to this
offer of God to save us from our sins. It is
concerned with what we will do with God’s offer.
Will we Accept it, Reject it or Neglect it? It is
about the here and now. When we accept Jesus as our
Saviour from sin we are delivered from God’s anger
towards sinners. Many reject God’s offer of rescue
and many more pay no attention to it. They simply
neglect it.
The next verse shows us that the revelation from God
concerning this salvation was revealed sometime in
the past. It looks at the method God chose to rescue
us from penalty of our sins. The grace of God that
makes salvation available to all men was revealed on
the Cross when Jesus died for our sins.
Our text today
tells us something of what salvation will mean to us
in the future. We are not looking back to God’s
method of rescuing men and women from the penalty
pronounced on sinners but forward to all that God
has in store for those who accept His gracious
offer.
We are rescued from our sins when we are born again
We
are born again by the will, grace and mercy of God.
It
is the work of the Spirit of God. (John 3:5,
16:8-11)
The
Price of the new birth is 1 Peter 1:17-20 NKJV
you
were not redeemed with corruptible things, like
silver or gold, from your aimless conduct received
by tradition from your fathers, but with the
precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without
blemish and without spot.
The
agent of the new birth is the Word of God. (1Peter
1:23
-25)
We are born again:
To a living hope,
To an inheritance, that can never perish, spoil or
fade,
Reserved in
Heaven,
For all who are kept by the power of God through
faith,
For salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.
